As Energy Costs Climb, Creative Window Designs Helps Designers Specify for Performance

Creative Window Designs is inviting designers to visit its Costa Mesa showroom and explore how the right window treatments can help address heat transfer, insulation and light control without compromising the look of a room.
For decades, Creative Window Designs has helped Southern California designers and homeowners navigate changes in style, technology and the way people live in their homes. While energy efficiency has become a more urgent part of today’s conversation, the company’s approach remains rooted in the same personalized service and attention to detail that have shaped its legacy.

Windows can be a significant source of heat gain and heat loss within a home. Research from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office found that cellular shades saved up to 20% on heating energy compared with unshaded windows, delivered up to 15% in combined heating and cooling savings, and produced approximately 15% in annual HVAC energy savings when compared with vinyl blinds.
The impact of a window treatment depends on several factors, including the product’s construction, fit and material, as well as the window’s size, location and exposure. Full-size operating displays at the Creative Window Designs showroom allow designers to see and compare these differences firsthand.
“You can’t fully understand how a treatment filters light, operates or changes the feel of a space from a photograph,” Savio said. “Our showroom gives designers the opportunity to experience the materials and work through the details with a team that understands both the design and technical sides of the decision.”
Creative Window Designs is a Hunter Douglas Gallery store and offers a wide selection of blinds, shades, sheers and shutters, including energy-conscious cellular shade options. The showroom also features fabric and finish libraries, drapery hardware, motorized solutions, and custom drapery and bedding produced in the company’s own workroom.
More than a product showroom, the Costa Mesa location serves as a hands-on resource for the trade. Designers can bring in plans, elevations, window orientations and client priorities, then work alongside the Creative Window Designs team to identify solutions suited to the project.
“Designers shouldn’t have to become building scientists to answer their clients’ questions,” Savio said. “They can bring us the challenge, and we’ll use our experience to help them understand the options and specify with confidence.”
